2026 Presentation of Trophies
SUPPORTER OF YEAR: Peter Harris Memorial Cup – Janine Evans
Presented by Club President – Mike O’Connor
Our 2026 Supporter of the year is a staunch Colts supporter who attends every game possible but has also gone out of her way to spoil and look after this side. Her post training pizzas on a Thursday have been a hit and really helped these guys gel as a team. Always available with a sympathetic ear and a bit of advice for the boys, you can see how much respect and appreciation they have for this. Add to all of this the hard work behind the scenes helping organise and set up ladies day, club day, finals weekend and prizegiving. We thank you for everything you have done this year. She even cleaned all the spiderwebs and muck out of the trophies this morning, I was hoping she didn’t see her name in the cup.
BEST CLUB MEMBER: Blair Furlong Cup – Tony O’Connor

This years recipient was difficult to choose as we had several worthy recipients, but one stood out above the rest. From the end of last season this member has been on my back constantly asking how he can help the club, what jobs he can do and why aren’t I asking him to help with more jobs. Without people like this it makes it really hard to run a club.
CLUB SPIRITED PLAYER: Ian MacRae Cup – Tim Staincliffe

This young man arrived fresh in the bay for preseason training and spent the early summer getting his elite rig ready for the upcoming season. After making himself unavailable for both NOBM and Hamilton Marist for Spillane (saving the Rig) he made himself available for the start of the reserves season, he then decided to test himself in the most gruelling of competitions Div 3. Seeing the reserves in need of numbers every second week this guy would make himself available to play near on 80 minutes for the reserves and then another 80 minutes for the 3rds. Never once complaining and always competing with a smile on his face.
2026 SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR: The K.R.Tremain Memorial Cup – Patrick Mauga
Presented by Mrs Pam Tremain
This is a player that many people within rugby circles have seen his potential for a number of years. In his younger days he wasn’t always the best trainer but had raw power and a skill set to match, and now an increase in game awareness and maturity has opened doors most of us can only dream of.
First it was the Hurricanes U20, where stand out performances had him picked for the New Zealand U20s Rugby Championship squad. From here he was named in the NZ U20s squad and travelled to Georgia for the world championship. 208 minutes played 93 carries, 80 post contact meters, 6 defenders beaten, 21 tackles made at 88%.
Adding to this he has just been Named in the HB Magpies Squad for 2026.
If he continues like this I don’t think we will be seeing much of this young man next year as Ive heard rumour that super rugby teams are are busy wooing him., but hopefully if he gets a weekend off we will seem him back in the Blue and Green.

The victorious Thirds prepare to Celebrate……
AJ GARDINER TROPHY – FINAL
NAPIER OLD BOYS MARIST THIRDS 27 – 8 TAKAPAU
So, in a freezing cold AJ Gardiner Cup final, Napier Old Boys Marist Thirds played Takapau Thirds. NOBM scored first and controlled the game throughout. They lost Ross Clements early to a head knock, but Sam Williams stepped in and handled things calmly, steadying the ship. Napier stayed in front all game dominating territory and possession. The final score was 27-8 to NOBM in a game that provided a lot of big hits and plenty of sore bodies.
Overall a very successful season for the thirds, having clinched the AJ Gardiner cup for the first time, having previously lost two finals for the cup. Looking to build on the progress they have made this year, targeting a top 4 spot in 2027. Massive thank you to the supporters for turning up every weekend and getting behind the lads.

PAT RYAN MEMORIAL TROPHY – FINAL
NAPIER OLD BOYS MARIST COLTS 28 – 30 TARADALE COLTS
The only disappointment was the Second Round Final. It still hurts because I genuinely believe we were the better team on the day. The boys gave absolutely everything and left nothing out on the field. Unfortunately, rugby can be cruel, and Taradale scored with the final play of the game to take the win.
Despite that heartbreak, the attitude of this group says everything about their character. Instead of dwelling on the loss, the conversations quickly turned to next season—how we can improve, who we can bring into the squad, and what it will take to go one step further. That mindset gives me a lot of confidence for the future.
I’d like to thank every player, parent, supporter, volunteer, and sponsor who helped make the season possible. Your support means more than you know.

Then join us for the aftermatch function at the NOBM Clubrooms to follow. This will be game two of NZM Development teams three match tour, which opens on Sat 1 August in Taupo and finishes on Sat 8 Aug in Waipukurau. This tour brings together the best of Marist rugby, creating a strong and competitive XV made up of experienced Premier players from clubs across the country. With the shift away from Colts rugby, the Marist XV format ensures a higher level of competition while providing a valuable development opportunity for those selected.

The Leprauchan Comments
Paddy and Joseph were walking home from Mulligans Irish bar on Halloween night. They decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery just for laughs. Right in the middle of the cemetery, they were startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows.
Trembling with fear, they found an old man with a hammer and chisel chipping away at one of the headstones. “Jaysus Man, ya frightened the life outa us”
Paddy called as he caught his breath.”You scared us half to death — we thought you were a ghost! What are you doing working here so late at night?” Joseph called. “My friends are such fools!” the old man grumbled. “They misspelt my name, and here I have to correct it!”
Paddy texts his wife one evening and says, “Hi honey, I’ll
Paddy feared his wife Mary wasn’t hearing as well as she used to and thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family doctor to discuss the problem.
The doctor told him there is a simple informal test that paddy could perform to give the doctor a better idea about her hearing loss. Here’s what you do said the doctor, stand about 40 feet away from her and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you.
If not go to 30 feet away and then 20 feet and so on until you get a response. Later that day when Paddy gets home from the pub he sees Mary in the kitchen cooking dinner and he was in the hallway, He thinks to himself I’m about 40 feet away let’s see what happens. In a normal tone, he asks “Mary what’s for dinner my lovely?” No response so he moves closer 30 feet he says” Mary what’s for feckin dinner ?”. Still no response.
He moves closer about 20 feet. “Mary, for Christ’s sake can ye be telling me what’s for dinner ?” Still nothing and again at 10 feet still nothing. So he walks up behind her and says Mary, can you tell me what’s for dinner?
She replied,
