“Team up with a Winning Club in 2023

Why would you play for Old Boys Marist ?

We have a simple philosophy at Napier Old Boys Marist – that we are a well organised rugby club both on and off the field, we are fit, disciplined, well coached and our players are very loyal.  Our teams are always well presented.

At Napier Old Boys Marist we promote a strong work ethic, we play with a special passion and honesty which is fun to be part of, but we also expect our players to carry that honesty through to their work and personal lives.

In summary we as a club will create a positive environment so that players can expect to progress in their rugby careers.  To excel players must also take responsibility for their rugby and life in general.

You don’t get what you wish for  –  You get what you work for.

Attention NOBM Rugby Members

Our thoughts and prayers go out to our players and members who may have suffered from the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle this past week.  The losses of lives, homes, possessions and property is difficult to imagine unless one has been through a similar disaster themselves.

You can rest assured that your fellow club members will willingly respond in any way we can to help out.  Unfortunately there is no quick fix in many instances but you can be assured your club mates are behind you and your families and you are foremost in our thoughts.

Hopefully everyone is safe and secure from our NOBM community. If anyone needs any help please reach out to

   Terry 0274 524 521    or    Wade 0210 593 943
and we will see what we can organize to help out.

Stay safe and we will see you all soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DID YOU KNOW
   THAT  We hope YOU enjoyed   ‘ St PATRICKS DAY’ celebrations last Friday and made the most of the annual event and maybe, just maybe even sampled a drop of Baileys and a handle of Guinness or two….  Our little Leprachaun mate below certainly made the most of it and could have even had to blow up a bag on the home…
THAT  to our Sponsors and Members  –  Your loyal backing as in past seasons with our various funding options is always awaiting your Support  –  THANK YOU
THAT it would be great to see a good turnout of our loyal supporters and lower grade players at Tremain Field for next Saturdays  Benson Properties Ltd NOB Marist Premiers opening 2023 Nash Cup game >>> kickoff  > 3pm.   Then join up with your clubmates for a sample of the clubs refreshments.   See YOU Saturday……..
     THAT it will be interesting to see if this goes head to head in the coming weeks as a decision is made at long last to appoint the new All Black mentor.  With so much stuffing around and certainly mishandled one can only but hope that this furore will settled down and NZ Rugby can get on and make a decision.  Here’s hoping…..
IRISH LOGIC   “There are only two kinds of people in the world: the Irish and those who wish they were.”
THAT  we extend our Hearty Congratulations to our Premier players Reilly Hannan, Mitch Gibson and Kere Penetito on their selection in the 2023 Spillane Tournament XV following the recent 91st tournament.   Well done guys as well as your entire tournament NOBM team mates.
THAT now is the time to consider becoming a Gold Card member of the Napier Old Boys Marist Rugby Club.
THAT  an important message to all players.  –  Make 2023 the year you introduce a New Player or Supporter to our Club.    We are always on the lookout for new talent as we will have vacancies in all teams …. Also support with team management as well as on the sidelines.    Invite your friends to  Team up with the Greens in 2023”  so we can have greater depth in numbers into the future for when we kick-off and about to commence our 2023 season.
   THAT our South Island affiliate the Ashburton Celtic Club have been hosting the annual South Island Marist tournament this past weekend.   Also on the clubs agenda is the upcoming Centenary weekend 2-4 April.   Rugby memories of sporting courage and famous road trips will be at the fore when Mid Canterbury’s Celtic Rugby Football Club marks 100 years this Easter.
A weekend of celebration is planned, along with a centennial booklet and a special game of rugby.  Napier Old Boys Marist extend to our southern ‘cousins’ all the best for a memorable Easter weekend.
THAT  If you or anyone you know are interested on donning your boots and joining our Sideline Bay Thirds  please don’t hesitate on giving ‘thirsty’ 3rds manager Bryan McGreevy a call  >>>  021 195 1944  –  New Players Welcome.   And the Napier Collison Repair Centre Colts have good numbers fronting up at training with of new faces joining our ranks.  Also MAKE SURE you get along and support our Napier Collision Repair NOBM Colts ‘green machine’ during the season.
THAT
we hear that there was a pre-season’hitout’ between our Richard Kepka Builders Premier Reserves and an Eskview Club XV on Bond Field yesterday afternoon.  Unfortunately  no details or report was available at time of despatching this weeks TeamTalk.
memories of sporting courage and famous road trips will be at the fore when Mid Canterbury’s Celtic Rugby Football Club marks 100 years this coming Easter weekend  2-4 ApriA weekend of celebration is planned, along with a centennial booklet and a special game of rugby.Centennial committee chairman Kieron Gray said registrations were now open, via www.ashburtonceltic.co.nz and Celtic members past and present should sign up.
save the date, April 2-4.
   THAT a reminder to all NOBM players – Pass the word around amongst your team mates and also any likely New Players your know of  –  be they family, friends or workmates.  In 2023 we will have vacancies in all grades from  Colts  through to  Premiers  so new players will always be Welcome.
THAT Rugby’s world governing body is encouraging member unions to trial ‘belly tackles’ in the community game in a bid to make the sport safer.  And they’re are not ruling out trialing the lower tackle height in the elite game too.   National unions are consulting over the lowering tackle height at non-elite level in a bid to reduce concussions.  World Rugby’s recommendations is that the height be set below the sternum, which it also refers to as a ‘belly tackle’………….
THAT and here’s to a man who we all know will be celebrating today  –  none other than former Marist President and Life Member one ~~~~~  Joseph Kelly….
…………. THAT
following on from the above.  If you take the time to study many of the current Super Rugby competition games you can’t miss the number of higher tackling that so often creeps up to slipping up around the neck in the heat of the moment.  Look out for it.  Actually I spotted it on a number of occasions in last Friday evenings Hurricanes – Waratahs encounter.  And so many don’t get pinged either.
THAT  As usual we apologies for any errors or mistakes in this edition.   Ed
AND THAT ……….
Our man Bam is well practiced at knowing how to celebrate St Paddy’s Day in style …..
“Team up with the  ‘GREEN MACHINE’ again in 2023  –  New Players are always WELCOME
THEY SAID IT
“It’s more than a team this week, I’d never be able to live with myself if we don’t turn up and play well.  You take the emotion out of it, it’s going to be emotional anyway.  You’re playing England at home with something on the line, so it’s always what you wanted to do and where you wanted to be.”
Six Nations competition leaders Ireland captain Jonathan Sexton before the clash at Landsdowne Road.
Ireland mastered the hype and expectations to win the Six Nations and a historic first Grand Slam in Dublin by seeing off England 29-16 this morning.”
One News……..
and continues “Ireland’s Dublin home ground had never witnessed an Irish Grand Slam, nor a title in the Six Nations era, and this Irish XV delivered by wearing down England.”
The Leprauchan Comments
Foreman : Why do you only carry one board at a time ?
All the other workers carry two.
Worker : Well, I guess they are just too lazy to make two trips.
Paddy and Murphy were working on a building-site when a large, slate tile, slid off the roof and hit Murphy on the side of his head, slicing off his ear. Murphy screamed out,”My ear,my ear. Paddy I’ve lost my ear.”
After much shouting, screaming and frantic searching Paddy cries out,”Murphy, I’ve found it. Holding up a bloody ear Paddy says, “Murphy, is this your ear?”
To which a puzzled Murphy replies, “No Paddy,mine had a pencil behind it “
Paddy runs into the Pub and shouts to Mick, “Someones stolen your car!”
Mick says “Did you see who did it?”
Paddy says “No, but I got the registration Number !”
We look forward to seeing all rugby players, footballers, netballers, cricketers and softballers and friends at the clubrooms each Saturday  –  Pop in for cool Tui or two  – Also bring along your mates for an Ale and a chat.    All members and friends Welcome …………. Ed
