vs Feilding Yellows – Tremain Field
kickoff 1pm
Our visitors from Feilding Yellows arrival yesterday was delayed which meant a later than advertised kickoff which was due to a road accident resulting in having to make a detour. There was also a big crowd of their supporters who came through for the annual home and away fixture which was great to see and for Napier OBM to play hosts to.
And of our opening fifteens game of the year after a summer of the abbreviated versions both 10’s & 7’s, we saw in the first minutes an OB Marist touchdown and then had to settle for most of the first two spells of a more even encounter as a liberal use of a wider squad of our Napier clubs Prems, Reserves and Colts were given game time to show their wares.
It really wasn’t until the final two quarters that a greater number our regular Premiers got together into the lineup and some old combinations began to reappear resulting in a number of sparkling buildups resulting in some classy tries. With an expanded bench available a good number of our clubs players had an early chance to rub shoulders with one another for the first time which let coaches and supporters know that we also have talent knocking at the door.
Next Saturday it will be our turn to head down to the Manawatu to take on Palmerston North OBM for the Reebo Cup. This outing will be our last warmup for the 88th Spillane Tournament the following weekend in New Plymouth. We invite our supporters fill a few cars and to make take the run down to Palmie and give our guys your support….

A TRIBUTE TO MARILYN MACRAE
It is with saddened hearts that members of NOBM Rugby Club heard the news of the passing of Marilyn MacRae. They say that beside every great man there stands a great woman. Well standing beside our Club Patron, Life Member and great All Black Ian MacRae for over 50 years was his amazing wife Marilyn.
I believe the attached photo of Ian and Marilyn together typifies the loving relationship they shared together. The photo was taken at the NZRU headquarters when Ian had just finished his 3 year term as President .
We all have special memories of Marilyn, her positive and cheerful personality, and her loyalty and bravery. Our sincere sympathy is extended to Ian and his family at their sad loss.
Philip Beck

DID YOU KNOW
THAT a few comments from affiliate Ashburton Celtic clubs latest newsletter. Reminder to members highlighting Napier Old Boys Marist U13 visit over Easter 2019. Also of the annual South Island Marist tournament being hosted by Timaru Celtic over weekend March 2. And the NZ Junior U13 Rugby tournament (U68kg) to be played in Queenstown 27-28 Sept. 2019.
THAT have YOU got yourself a ticket yet for this coming Fridays –
Race Night Fundraising Event
The St Johns College Rugby Foundation is hosting the inaugural SJC Race Night. This is a fundraising evening to help raise money towards two St Johns College rugby teams travelling to Chile in April 2019 (the 1st XV and Emerging Players sides) as well as towards the continued development of SJC rugby:
Date: NEXT Friday 1st March
Start time: 6.30pm until 11.30pm
Venue: St Johns College Gymnasium (Father Barry O’Connor Centre)
Dress Code: Day at the Races – horse racing theme – or whatever you would wear to the races…it really is down to your imagination!
Entry: Tickets are $40 which includes a buffet meal fully catered by the nationally recognised SJC culinary arts students as well as live entertainment and a fundraising auction. More details coming to our readers this week…….
THAT here’s a TeamTalk (Sept 1982) Flashback – GOAL POSTS It was a fine effort when out Senior 3 five-eight Kevin Weipeihana single handedly beat the opposition Tech Thirds when his team won 9-6. Kev ‘potted’ 3 drop goals for all Marists points.
The last time Marist registered three field goals in an outing was about ‘half a century’ ago – when premiers young Sam O’Brien fresh from Marlborough slotted 3. Reliable sources at the time informed us that one was even a punt !
THAT – In heaven there is no beer. That’s why we drink ours here.
THAT couldn’t help but pass comment of another code ie Football. Reckon the management of the NZ ‘A’ League team the Wellington Phoenix who apparently due to Westpac stadium being unavailable decided take what was ‘home’ game for the team against Sydney FC, back across the Tasman and play it at Campbelltown. And in doing so also lost 1-0 in front of a meagre crowd of only 5000 aussie spectators. It certainly defies logic that the Hutt Rec or another venue in NZ couldn’t be utilised to play the ‘home’ game in front of Kiwi football fans. It was only last weekend that they drew 1-1 against Melbourne Victory in front of 23,000+ at Eden Park. Maybe Phoenix decision makes must have headed one to many balls !
THAT if you know of anyone that is interested in joining our regular TeamTalk mailouts then please forward their name and email address to – eddiewilson@xtra.co.nz New members and supporters of our Rugby and affiliates Marist sports club always Welcome.

NAPIER OLD BOYS MARIST CRICKET
TOP RESULT
With overnight rain extending into the morning the only team to have a game (and with reduced overs at that) today were the NOBMCC Station Premiers against Napier Tech at Nelson Park.
Tech won the toss and put us into bat, with Nihal Shilar top scoring on 28 and Gurung and Stu Lindsay both making 22.
NOBM were all out for 119
In what must be one of the biggest upsets of the season, Tech featuring talent such as Jesse Ryder, Liam Rukuwai and Christian Leopard were skittled for a paltry 72/10 !!
Sunil Kimar taking 5 for 17 off 5.2 overs.
A great result for the Premiers and the Club!
Well done guys lets have a bit more of this – believe in yourselves…… Ed

The Leprechaun Comments
Two Irishmen were walking home after a night on the beer when a severed head rolled along the ground.
Mick picked it up to his face and said to Paddy “Jez, that looks like Sean”
To which Paddy replied “No Sean was taller than that”
~~~~~~~~~~
A cop pulls up two Irish drunks, and says to the first, “What’s your name and address?”
“I’m Paddy O’Day, of no fixed address.”
The cop turns to the second drunk, and asks the same question. “I’m Seamus O’Toole, and I live in the flat above Paddy.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘You lot are a complete disgrace,’ bellowed the Irish Guards Sergeant major. ‘That’s the worst straight line I’ve ever seen. All fall out and come and take a look at it!
~~~~~~~~~~~
A young Irish boy said to his grandfather, “Make a frog noise for me, Grandad.”
“No, son, I don’t feel like making a frog noise right now.”
“Oh please, Grandad, make a frog noise.”
“No, I don’t want to.”
“Oh please, Grandad, make a frog noise.”
“Why is it so important to you that I make a frog noise?”
“Mum says when you croak we can have this house!”
